Chatteris International Graduate Programme - Programme Overview
The Chatteris International Graduate Programme comprises 7 main elements:
School Placement:
- We bring native English speaking graduates, from Bachelor degree level upwards, from across the globe to work in a local school in Hong Kong on a 9 month contract.
- As a CNET (Chatteris Native-Speaking English Tutor) you will be placed in a local school and become part of their community. Your main role in school is to teach small groups, co-teach classes, develop and maintain the English language environment in school.
- Our CNETs are encouraged to develop a more relaxed ‘Elder Brother/Sister’ role with their students. You will be challenged to use your enthusiasm and creative approach to help develop fun, imaginative and authentic ways of improving student’s enjoyment and confidence when speaking English both inside and outside the classroom.
Orientation and Development:
- On arrival in Hong Kong, every CNET takes part in a 2 week Orientation period introducing Hong Kong, ‘The Chatteris Approach’ to teaching and the team! Once placed in your programme school, there is also a week long orientation period in school to help you familiarise yourself with your students and new environment.
- Professional development workshops take place weekly to ensure continual improvement and maintain the team environment. In addition tutorials, seminars and group sharing sessions are arranged throughout the year.
- Depending on sufficient demand free Cantonese and / or Putonghua lessons will be offered by Chatteris.
Support Network:
- Chatteris employs a team of project managers who are also young native English speakers and have recently graduated- so there is always someone to turn to for advice!
- In addition to the project managers, all the office team are always happy to help discuss problems or give local based advice.
- Behind the scenes, there are a group of people, from the Board of Trustees to volunteers at local banks, working to ensure the success of the programme and maintenance of the company.
- Each school also provides a Teacher-in-Charge and Mentor for the CNETs to provide an in-school support system for day-to-day work.
- On arrival in Hong Kong Chatteris provides its new team of CNETs with accommodation providing an instant team environment for new arrivals.
- Throughout the year, CNETs support one another in the form of core groups, e.g. Sharing ideas, lessons, resources and experience, to enable success and a higher level of efficiency.
The Chatteris Circle
- Within the first few weeks, CNET representatives are elected. Their role is to help establish a close circle in Chatteris amongst CNETs and the Chatteris Project Management Team by organising activities for the whole team, voicing new ideas and concerns and, this year, setting up the Chatteris Alumni so that past and present Chatteris employees can remain in touch!
Activities in the Hong Kong community
- Along with the CNET community, Chatteris encourages CNETs to get involved with activities in the local community. CNETs have participated in Open Mic Nights, Hong Kong Football Leagues, Netball, Dragon Boat Racing, the Hong Kong Waterpolo Team, Yoga classes and even local activist groups!
Chatteris Community Programmes:
- Chatteris also runs voluntary Community Programmes alongside organisations such as the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Social Welfare Department for our CNETs to get involved in.
Career Development
- Through working for Chatteris you will gain valuable international work experience. In addition, we also offer career development programmes to help CNETs explore their future career path.
